HIBERNIAN SOCIAL AND DEBATING CLUB

On Monday last the members of the above club assembled in large numbers to take part in tho syllabus item drawn up for tho occasion. Tho evening took the form- of a “ mock wedding breakfast.” Tho humour of the piece was thoroughly appreciated by the members. To the strains of Mendelssohn’s ‘Wedding March’ the “bridal party” entered the room amidst the applause of the guests. The personnel of the wedding party was as follows The bride, Mr A. Gillick; bridegroom, Mr J. Griudley; bridesmaids, Messrs R. Campbell and J. Beard; groomsman, Mr A. Lister; clergyman, Mr J. P. Ward; best man, Mr A. L. Curry. The room was gaily decorated, and the tables were tastefully decked with autumn tints and chrysanthemums. A lengthy toast list was duly honoured after the “ bride ” had performed the time-hon-oured ceremony of cutting the cake. The toast list was as follows“ The Bride and Bridegroom,” proposed by the “ clergyman ” and responded to by the bridegroom; “Tho Parents and Relatives of the Bride and Bridegroom,” proposed by the “ clergyman ” and responded to by Messrs J. N. Smith and (1 Kennedy; “Tho Bridesmaids,’' 1 proposed by Mr J. J. Marlow, jun., responded to by Mr A. L. Curry; “The Visitors,” proposed by Mr A. Lister and responded to by Mr J. Ryan; “The Clergy,” proposed by Mr F. Brown.

Several good items were contributed by tbo members during the evening. Mr A. L. Curry capably carried out his duties as "best man,” and read several telegrams conveying best wishes to the happy couple. Amongst those read was one from the president and members of the Mustard Club and kindred societies. The evening closed by the departing guests paying their respects to the “ brido and bridegroom.”
