RETIREMENT FROM SCREEN COMING VISIT TO ROME. NEW YORK, April 18. It is reported from Hollywood that the famous screen star, Miss Mary Pickford (Mrs Douglas Fairbanks), has announced her retirement from the films. Her Press agents give the recent death of Miss Pickford’s mother hs the chief reason for. her retirement, but there are other reasons, including the star’s physical difficulty in avoiding stoutness,, and the realisation that she cannot continue successfully to ivlay the juvenile or ingenue parts with which tho public is'so familiar. That is how she wishes to be remembered. The star and her husband will leave New York on May 5 for Rome, where they will charter an aeroplane to liy to Algiers and Cairo.
