The monthly meeting of the Mosgiel School Committee was held last night, Mr G. A. M'Leod presiding. Notification was received to the effect that Nurse Nicholson, dental officer, had been transferred to Dunedin centre and that Nurse Mqir would take up the duties in Mosgiel. It was decided to send a letter to Miss Nicholson thanking her for services rendered and expressing regret at her departure. Tho rector reported the school roll numbered primary 369 and secondary 22. Mr Dorringtou had taken up duties in the secondary department. The inspector of high schools had visited the school on March 19. Ho had expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which Miss M'Crae had carried out her duties as relieving teacher in the secondary department. A communication from tho Education Board stated that the change of hours in the secondary department had been approved. He ■had chosen sets of geographical and historical friezes and given an indent order for other pictures to bring the amount up to £7, the amount available, with subsidies. The staff had approved of the idea of a school magazine, suggested at last meeting, and was prepared to co-operate. He suggested a jumble sale ,to provide funds for necessary school improvements, also that the school band be worked up again. The report was adopted and approval given to the recommendations The Moth ’plane piloted by Mr Douglas Mill, who was accofnpanied by Mr E. C. Studholme, of Christchurch, arrived at Blenheim at 12.55 p.m. yesterday, and hopped off again for Trentham at 2 o’clock. The conference of the New Zealand Law Society, meeting at Christchurch, discussed the jury system, with special reference to the rules of December, 1924, restricting the rights of litigants to trial by jury in certain civil cases. The following was carried:—“That this conference approves of the principle that it is desirable to revert to the former rules as to trial by jury in civil actions.”

Appointments to the [loyal Volunteer Naval Reserve (Now Zealand Division) are gazetted as follow :—Lieutenants—A. Welsh and F. Eraser; paymaster lieutenant, R. Free; probationary lieutenants—H. Donald, D. E. S. Mason, P. G. Connolly, and W. H. Cadwallader; probationary sub-lieuten-ants— L. T. Paul and F. E. Taylor; probationary surgeon-lieutenants Dr A. Perry and Dr E. R. Harty. Two parties of wapiti hunters reached Gore yesterday, homeward bound. Messrs Thomas (Auckland), Holmes (Frankton Junction), Ormaslon (Papatoetoe), and Cole (Nelson) had a most successful trip. Entering their block at Te Anau, they hunted towards Lake Sutherland. Mr Holmes secured a tenpointer and a thirteen-pointer wapiti, and Mr Holmes told a ‘ Matanra Ensign ’ reporter that the party was well pleased with the trip. Wapiti were sighted on the evening of the second day, and then mists intervened. More wapiti were seen lour days later. Mr Thomas also found a dead fourteenpointer. This head was brought in with the others. Messrs Nitz brothers (Masterton), working No. 2 block, were not so successful. They saw very few traces, but the party had a good outing. Both parties pav a tribute to the kindness of the Southland Acclimatisation Society. Tim heads created groat interest at Gore.
