FRENCH ATTEMPT FAILS AIRMEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. PARIS, April 4. Major Dagnaux and Lieutenant Preille took off from Villa Caublay at 8.20* a.m. to-day in an attempt to circumnavigate Africa, when an engine defect forced them to descend near Pierrelatte, at 3 p.m. The ’plane touched a tree and somersaulted and burst into flames. Eyewitnesses rushed up and extricated_ the airmen, who were taken to hospital. They are not expected to recover.
