E FLAT SOLO TO COUGHLAH [Pbe United Press Association ! CHRISTCHURCH, February 20. At the Bands Contest this morning, the solo competitions commenced, Mr W. S. King being the judge. Results: E FLAT BASS SOLO. W. Coughlau (Kaiko'rai), 94 points 1 T. Pheloung (Woolston), 90 2 J. Avery (Timaru) 3 Thirteen played. BASS TROMBONE SOLO.
L Willicombe (Dannevirke), 85 ... 1 F. Kcoghan (Christchurch Municipal), 81 - Seven competed.
Our Special wires: The veteran, W. Coughlau (Kaikorai) won the E Flat Basa Solo this morning. It was a most artistic effort, and the judge (Mr King) specially commented on the excellent finish, tone, and style. He won by 4 points from Pheloung (Woolston), a player of bolder type, but with fine command of his instrument. The bass trombone was not such a good competition. Willcombe (Dannevirke) showed more artistry than the others.
