Early on Saturday afternoon the drizzling rain which'fell threatened to spoil the Otago Motor Club’s hill climbing races at Bethunc’s Gully. However, the weather cleared later, and the 3.000 or more spectators witnessed some good climbing. In the early stages the biff was slippery, and the mist at the top tended to obscure the vision of the riders. A start was made punctually at - o’clock, and competitors were scut on the upward grade every four minutes, forty-four runs being put_through in three hours. The organisation throughout was excellent, and the Boy Scouts stationed at intervals on the hill did good work. In all events there was good competition. The South Canterbury riders did well considering that they were strangers to the bill and had bad a long ride from Timaru that morning. The entries wore composed mainly ol Nortons from Timaru and A.J.S.’s from Dunedin, with a sprinkling of HarlcyDavidsons and a Super X. Results; Passmore Cup. for motor cycles up to 1.000 c.c.; gold modal given in conjunction.—A . I). Inglis (Dunedin). A.A.S., 1. Time. Imin 30 2-ssec. B. Lovcgrove, who won the cup last year on a Norton, completing the distance in Imin 29 3-ssec, was present to defend the trophy. There were twelve starters in the event, but limes were not as good as last year on account of Hip weather until the second nm. when good times were made. Until the Inst F. Cross (Timaru). riding a Norton, bad put up the fastest time of Imin 31 l-ssec. On the last, runof the competition Inglis made tbo climb in Imin 30 2-osec. winning the cup with the fastest time up to that point.. The crowd became very excited, and loudly cheered the winner. N. M'Garva (Timaru) met with a slight accident on. the first run. injuring bis face. The rider was not used to the hill. Motor Cycles, open, unlimited. —A. D. Inglis 1. Time, Imin 28 3-sscc. Inglis, who won the event last year, equalled bis previous time. The event was keenly contested by Lnvogrovo on a Norton, bis time being Imin 28 4-ssec. Exceptionally good riding was seen. There were ten entries and two non-starters. Motor Cycles, novices, unlimited ;_ Ist up to 350"c.c.—F. Boriase (Dunedin), A.J.S., 1. Time, Imin 30 l-ssec. Ist, unlimited, W. FT. Doig (TimaruL Har-ley-Dnridson. Time, Imin 33 3-osec. There were, eight entries and five starters. The riding was good for novices. Boriase actually making better time, than Inglis in the Passmore Cup event.

All competitors; officials, and visitors from the S.C.M.C.C. then adjourned for tea, during which it was mentioned that the Timaru Cup hill climb would be held there in the last week in March. The hope was expressed that Dunedin would be present in force.
