MAN FOUND DEAD

INQUEST ADJOURNED Tile body of a man, subsequently identified as that of William Jenkins, a widower with a family of lour, residing at Manrlcville, near Gore, was found in the long grass beside a track on the St. Kilda Beach at 2.45 on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was forty-five years of age. ■ There, were no marks of violence and nothing to indicate the cause of death. The man had been dead only a short tipic, as the body was slightly warm. In his pockets were several small articles of no great value and 7 ! ,d in cash. Ail inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased was held this morning before Mr W. H. Bundle, S.M., coroner. Sergeant M'Enteo represented the police. Evidence of identification was given by a brother of the deceased, Albert htonjamin Jenkins, a blacksmith, residing at 96 Tennyson street. He understood that the deceased bad been receiving medical treatment in Gore for heart trouble, but could advise no explanation as to the cause of death. John Brabyn. retired, residing at 50 Victoria road, St. Kilda, said that on Saturday last, about 2.45 p.m., lie was walking' on to the St. Kilda Beach by a shortcut, when he found he deceased lying on his face in the very long grass, a short distance from the track and in (full view of anyone walking along. This track was used a great deal. Witness rolled the deceased over on his back and left 1 him as ho was until the police arrived shortly after. The body was slightly warm. Witness considered that the deceased had not been dead very long. The coroner remarked that there was nothing to account for death, and ordered a post mortem examination to be conducted.

The inquest was adjourned to enable the police to communicate with Dr M‘Ara, of Gore, for further information.
