SAGAR CUP

SURF COMPETITION AT ST. CLAIR Life-saving and surf activities on Uie St. Clair beach were given a decided fillip las year when the Sagar Cup was presented for competition for four-man surf teams, the second annual contest taking place on Saturday afternoon. Though the competition is not confined to teams from the St. Clair Life Saving and Surf Chib, only tbe suburban club was represented on this occasion, when the cup contest was staged as one of the attractions of the St. Clair Carnival. The conditions wero similar to those of an alarm competition, fastest time and resuscitation being the principal tests. Points were also given for the care of the patient, general bell work, and team work.

A largo crowd witnessed the teams in action, and witli a heavy sea on a good test was provided, though the conditions were more favorable than was the case last year. There was a good tide running, and a strong tow. and difficulty was experienced at first in anchoring tlie buoy, which drifted towards the shore gradually during the progress of the competition. Of the six teams that competed two were comprised of junior members, who made quite a fair showing. The standard generally was a. fairly high one, and practically every team made a good run-out. The drill of several teams could be a little brighter, lack of practice being too evident among some of the entrants. One or two teams, however. showed considerable smartness, M'Lean’s team in particular giving a good all-round display. The resuscitation drill was not completed on Saturday, and will he held tonight, after which the result of the competition will be announced. On the displays given so far M‘Lean’s team looks to he leading. Messrs D. Bannatyne, E. H. James, and H. H. Henderson were the judges. The teams that competed were : Junior No.'l.—J.
