CLOSING KAWARAU GATES
THE MINISTER INVESTIGATING PRONOUNCED DROP IN RIVER [Special to the 1 Star.’] CROMWELL, February 3. The latest information regarding the proposed closing of the Kawarau dam gates is a telegram received by Mr Stewart Wright, local secretary, as follows: “In reply to your telegram in reference to closing the Kawarau dam, I am looking fully into the position, and will communicate with yon further as soon as possible.—(Signed) Minister of Public Works.”
The weather is still hot, although there was a light shower early this morning. The Kawarau has shown a pronounced drop in the last two days.
