THE WARATAHS

A NEWSPAPER EULOGY. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright LONDON, January 30. (Received January 31, at 2 p.ra.) Summing up the Waratahs’ tour, the ‘Morning Post’ says; “ Everybody is sorry to say good-bye to them. The brilliant opportunism of our old friends, Lawton and Wallace, and the all-round good work of the forwards, especially in hooking and line-outs, will be remembered by historians of Rugby football. The Waratahs have added two pictures to our portrait gallery. Of the truly outstanding players, J. Ford was as great in all departments of forward play as Maurice Brownlie, being as unerring and as infinitely resourceful; and Ross (who is in the same class as Nepia), Marshall, and Gamlin all played the game for its own sake and with a cheery zest, which somehow was lacking in the austere, implacable New Zealand teams. Perhaps a woman spectator, who said ‘they are such a human lot ’ summed ,up their characteristic merits.”
