NORTH END BOATING CLUB

The final race of the North End Boating Club for the Closs-Wright Cup was rowed on Saturday afternoon in fairly rough water. The two crews competing were:—G. Thomson (str), J, Mitchell. T. O’Shea, C. Barton (bow), and B. Willis (sir). It. Livingstone, U. Clarke, and E. J. O’Reilly (bow). Both crews got quickly off the mark, Vallis being slightly in the lead after the first dozen strokes. Thomson drew up on his opponents, and at Black Jack’s Point honors were even. At the halfmile Vallis quickened, and gained a length on Thompson, who replied with two dozen hard strokes. Just as Thomson was gaining on him Vallis commenced to sprint to the finishing line. Over the last part of the course both crews rowed in great style, but, despite every effort, Thomson could not gain on the opposing crow, which was gradually drawing away. Vallis’s crew crossed the line a length and a-half in the lead. Both the crews rowed in better form than they showed in the previous heats. Taken all round, this race was one of the most successful held by the club for some time. The general good rowing shown by the crews proved that with better racing equipment the club would be more serious competitors at the regattas. The following arc the crews selected to row at St. Leonard’s Regatta;— Youths Fours.—No. 1: W. Titchcner (stroke), E. J. Wilson, C. Barton, A. Deans. No) 2: W. Wilson (stroke), F. Vorrath, R. Clarke, 11. Rodgers (how). Maiden Fours.—No. I : P. Vallis (stroke), A. G. Johnston, W. Titehener, J. Hnrrell (bow). No. 2: G. Thomson ( stroke), H. Livingstone, J. Garthwaite, T', Blagdon (bow).
