AIRMEN'S DEPENDANTS

RELIEF FUND TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In accordance with a general wish, I convened a meeting of citizens in Wellington for the purpose of raising funds to assist the dependants of those brave airmen, Lieutenant J. R. Moncrieff and Captain G. Hood, who gave their lives so that New Zealand might claim the honor of being the first to fly the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand. It is felt that the appeal should be a national one, and, with this in view, 1 desire to solicit the cordial co-opera-tion of your paper in the direction of opening a subscription list, so that donations may be forwarded to yon from your district. So much has been written these last few weeks in regard to the flight that there remains little for me to say, with the exception that I have carefully inquired into the circumstances of the dependants, and find that there is every need for an effort such as this. trustees have been appointed to care for the fund in the meantime, and it will be subsequently handed over to the Public Trustee to administer. I shall be glad to hear that you have decided to lend your valuable co-opera-tion, and any amounts receivedl as a result of your efforts could be remitted to me, if convenient, say weekly, as arrangements have been made .with the Public Trustee to pay interest computed daily on all sums paid in.—l am, etc., Geo. A. Troup, Mayor of Wellington. Wellington, January 26.

[We shall be glad to receive contributions towards this fund and to remit them to the proper quarter.— m. E.S.]
