FIRST BATTALION BAND
To-morrow afternoon the Band of the First Battalion (Otago Regiment) will occupy the band rotunda in the Botanic Gardens. The programme, commencing at 3 ..p.m., . contains such popular items as Suppe’s 'Overture, Light Cavalry’; the selection,.. ‘The Merry Widow': and (by request) the selection, ‘ Nassica.’ The latter contains the gems -of many, overtures, and is fine military band music. Another feature- will be Bandsman Gibbon’s piccolo solo, ‘The wren in The Poplars,’ one of Adams's latest compositions. Mr Asten, as usual, will be the conductor, and the.collection taken will go towards the fund for new instruments and additional music. The public seems' to be under, a misapprehension that the Regimental Band receives' support from the Government. That is far from the case. Wo-, are -assured that the band is entirely self-supporting. ■ '
