CLINIC FOR RHEUMATISM

HELPING THE WORKERS (British Official News.) Pres* Association—Bv Wireless—Copyright. RUGBY, January 26. As the first step in a scheme for providing: similar institutions in all the large industrial centres, the British Bed Cross Society, with the support of the Health Ministry, is establishing in Loiuh n a new clinic for treating rheumatism. Nearly one-sixth of industrial invalidity in Britain is caused by rheumatic diseases, which cost the country nearly £2,000,000 annually in sick benefit payments, apart from the wastage involved in lost working time. The gcneial idea is to bring treatment within the reach of the workers, thus enabling them to remain employed during treatment. The clinics for rheumatism opened in London by the Bed Cross during the war are still doing valuable work, treating 20,000 patients annually. Trade rmfon and friendly societies are showing a practical interest in the schjrno.
