CROQUET
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The North Island croquet championships were continued at Wanganui yesterday, when the visiting English players joined in the matches. A notable win was that of Mrs E. A. Smith (Christchurch), who defeated Miss R. Sheet, present holder of the North Island championship. Colonel Du Pre (England) gave a brilliant exhibition of croquet, defeating Mrs W. Kirk in two straight games. Sir Francis Wemyss (England), after a somewhat indifferent opening, produced good form, and boat Colonel Savilo. Auckland. Ross beat Mrs C. Watkins, but both gave more chances than usual. The test match against England will b'j played on Friday next,
