ENGLAND BEATS AUCKLAND. The English croquet players yesterday played the Auckland representatives at the Mount Eden Green, where they had an easy win. They displayed fine knowledge and skill, and the general impression is that they will be hard to beat in New Zealand, and oh at they should do well at the New Zealand championship meeting. Sir Francis Wem.v.ss and Miss Steel defeated Mrs Fullerton ami Miss Woelman. 26 to S; Lieutenant-colonel Du j and Miss Relallark defeated Mrs Schnaner and Mr R. Lawrence, 26 to 4; Sir F. Wemyss and Miss Steel defeated Mrs Hilton and Mrs Lowe, 26 to 3. The game between Colonel Dn Pre and Miss Relallack against Mrs Airey and Lawrence was unfinished, but the visitors were leading by 22 to 2. ' The visitors left at night for Wanganui to take part in the North Island tournament. NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The North Island croquet championship tournament- was opened at Wanganui yesterday in glorious weather. Competitors are present from all parts of the dominion. Results:—• Ladies’ Championship (first life) — Mrs Lon Wat-kin beat Mrs M'Dougal, Airs R. Watkins heat Mrs Fulton, Mrs E. A. Johnson beat Mrs Leech, Mrs Pithcaithly heat Mrs Cowling, Mrs Jarvie beat Mrs Walling Jones.
