CHINESE PIRATES
ACTION BY THE POWERS REQUEST TO NATIONALIST GOVERNMENT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. • SHANGHAI, January 2(5. (Received January' 27, at 11.35 a.m.) The foreign Powers have voluntarily abandoned the plan jointly to suppress piracy in South China, according to a report from P.eking, due to the expense of providing necessary _ gunboats and the possibility of the Chinese misunderstanding such action. It is understood that as an alternative the Powers will request the Nationalist Government to undertake effective measures for the suppression of piracy on the coasts of the Fukien and Kwangtung provinces, and to guarantee the safe navigation ot foreign vessels plying these waters. Fifteen pirates who participated in the Sannaralioi piracy on January 15, resulting in the death of a British officer and Indian guards, were executed.
