WATER POLO FARCE
TOO MUCH TALK SOME ACTION NECESSARY Water polo is (productive of much enjoyment from a spectators’ point of view, but games that are played in the frivolous spirit of the _ WollingtonAuckland encounter this morning would not do much to popularise this interesting sport. The players took the water in very frolicsome mood, and the amount of chatter that went on among them would have done credit to a convention of old ladies. There has been too much of this sort of thing allowed in the pblo games played during the present championships, and unless some action is taken by the authorities, the game will die out of favor and become a useless part of the swimming championships. In many of the games that have been decided during the present week rough house tactics have been the rule, and if such things are permitted to continue, they will react to the detriment of swimming generally. There have been some fast and exciting water polo matches during the present championships, and as such, they naturally find favor with the public, but exhibitions of horseplay should be cut out.
