NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES

[From Our. Correspondent.] Many holidaymakers are still in evidence around the bay, and large numbers, both young and old, have been taking advantage of the spell of sunshine to fake every opportunity of bathing and boating. Last Saturday the Maoris gave another of their popular dances in the ball. Music was supplied by the Black Cat Orchestra, while Mr Brookman had charge of the catering. Alter haying had glorious weather all the week it was perhaps disappointing to the members of the Maoandrew’s Bay Swimming Club to have Saturday dawn overcast and chilly. Saturday had been set down as their carnival day. However, tiie rain held off, and the various events were successfully decided. That this dftb is a popular institution was amply demonstrated by the numerous entries for the reccs and the good attendance of the public. Many close finishes added to the attractions. During the afternoon the ladies on tiie committee served tea to the visitors, while sweets were handed to the children. In the evening a social was hold in the hall, and again a large number were present. Mr C. Free, on behalf of the committee, presented tiie prizes won in the afternoon to the following:—Beginners’ race, R. Ingram I, L. Ingram 2; girls’ race (under 12), L. Churchill 1, B. T. Mollcr's enp for the lady securing highest marks went to Miss K. Ingram. A light supper was handed round, and dancing continued until midnight, East’s Orchestra supplying the music. Although the Otago crew (Masters Riddell and Churchill) for the recent Cornwell Cup contest in Auckland were unluckily defeated in the latter races, after having won, they unquestionably proved that their selection was justified, and have every reason to congratulate themselves on what all yachting enthusiasts will agree was a meritorious performance. _ Unfortun-ately-they arc not bringing the cup back to Otago, but the welcome home to the boys, both of whom are well known locally, will be no less hearty on that account.
