CENSUS RETURNS STEADY INCREASE IN HALFCASTES. Press Association—By Telegraph—CopyrightSYDNEY, January 24. (Received January 24, at 10.25 a.ra.) According to a return issued by the Commonwealth .Bureau of‘Census, the number of full-blooded aborigines last year was 59,945, compared with 59,296 in 1926, hut in 1925 tho number was 62,394. The figures relating to halfcastes point to a steady increase in their number, averaging about 1,000 yearly, the number last year being i 0,465. About 10,000 full-blooded natives are in European employ. There are upwards of 4,000 half-castes in Queensland. There is a marked tendency to gather aborgines into the Government'mission stations. Only about 14 per cent, lead nomadic lives.
