MANAWATU MEETING The Manawatu motor cycle sports were held at Palmerston North yesterday before a crowd of 6,000 spectators. SOsec, 2; P. Coleman (Wanganui), scr, 3. Time, 7min. HASTERTOH MEETING OAKLEY BEATS GROSE. A feature of the Masterton Athletic Club’s annual sports yesterday was the meeting of F. Grose, triple title holder, and T. Oakley in the cycle events. Each won hie heat in the mile, Oakley in 2min 14 2-ssec and Grose in 2min 14eec. In the final Grose fell half a lap from home, and Oakley fell 100yds further on. Oakley scored a brilliant victory in the one mile and a-half invitation scratch race, beating Grose by 30yds in Smin 25 3-ssec. Again in the two-mile wheel race the Masterton boy heat Grose by four lengths in 4min 39 l-occc. Oakley also won the three miles for the Walker and Hall Cup in 7min 3 3-ssee. Grose did not start in this ‘event. E. Keskinen. the decathlon winner, with 4in handicap, put the shot 42ft Sin. beating P. Munro by lin. B. Hosking (Bfyds) beat C. H. Jenkins by inches in the 100yds in 9 4-ssec, while J. F. Fleming (2jyds) headed off Jenkins in 12scc for the Messenger Memorial Shield over 120yds. P. Williams (12yds) boat Fleming (4yds) and E. K. Eastwood (Byds) in the 220yds in 22see, and Eastwood (12vds) won the 440yds in 50 l-ssee. R. Lander won the 120yds hurdles in 16scc. and Miss Swinburne won the ladies’ 75yds in 9 2-sscc.
