MONTHLY MEETING Mr E. A. Rosevear presided at the nonthlv meeting of the’Red Cross So■iety, held yesterday afternoon. A very satisfactory report was received from Sister Kirkpatrick for the month'of December. As regards peace time activities the past year had been i very full one. , Miss Rattray and Miss Graham referred to the great miount of work accomplished by Sister Kirkpatrick. Mr Rosevear said that a atisfactory feature was the high percentage of passes recorded at the varians examinations. A letter was received from the Otago Hospital Board expressing appreciation of the society’s interest in the soldier patients at the hospitals. The Red Cross visitors we r e always welcome, and the comforts supplied were much appreciated. Applications for assistance were received from four soldier patients.—lt was resolved that three be granted upon recommendations, the fourth to stand over pending further information. Headquarters, Wellington, reported that the trial period of three months, during which the Red Cross Society and the Department of Health had cooperated, had terminated. The experiment, to an extent, had been satisfactory, but the full fruits bad not been derived owing to the need for additional assistance. A sub-committee, consisting of Dr Collins, Sir Alexander Roberts, and Messrs Flesber, Burnett, and Galloway, had been appointed to meet the Minister of Health (Mr J. A. Young), the Director-General, and Deputy Director-General of Health in conference early in the new year to discuss with them the question of cooperation between the department and the society, and to arrange a basis upon which such co-operation would be financed.

Mr Rosevear reported that he and Mr Speight had visited the Montecillo property during the recess, and found everything in order. Miss Graham, referring to the renovations carried out, said that the work was well done and the effect was pleasing. The Chairman thought that members would be pleased hi the knowledge that the home was being kept Up to its usual state of efficiency. A satisfactory financial statement was received and adopted. Mr Rosevear referred to the absence of the Rev. Bryan King, and voiced the feelings of'members by saying that lie hoped tho president would soon he in their circle again, restored to health.
