Liahibties amounting to £217 were acknowledged by Frederick Hosketh (formerly in business as a grain and produce merchant), a clerk, who met his. creditors. Bankrupt, who atrihuted his position to the poor salaries he had received in various occupations, and to sickness, safe he had no assets. Lately he had got behind with his rent, temporary work was usually obtained at race meetings, where he was engaged in the totalisator office at 30s a day. . e The Assignee: Yon have no one. to keep, and yet yon arc so far behind )n your debts. Do you drink? Bankrupt: Yes, whisky! It costs mo about 26s a week. The Assignee; Twenty pounds in three months, and you arc in debt? Do you bet?—Yes, 1 have been betting a bit more than 1 should. Nearly .all the boys in the totalisator “do in ” their wages trying to get a bit more hack. I usually lost mine, and sometimes a little more. A Creditor: Do your betting operations cost you £2O a year? Bankrupt: That much at least. I think it is more, but 1 do not gamble on cards. The Assignee: You are at least very candid. lam not prepared to see yon discharged unless you make some, effort to pay some of your debts, in view of tho admissions you have made. You say your positioii can be attributed to small salaries, but I think the fact that you have been spending a good deal in liquor has had something to do with it. Bankrupt made.an offer to pay 30s a week to his creditors in reduction of tho debts, and this was accepted.
