SYDNEY, January 9. The crews of the Moreton Bay, the Onuistou, and the Canberra were paid off, and the vessels have been tied up. Having succeeded in rendering these vessels idle, it is expected the seamen will now wait for the owners to make the next move. The union now has a largo number of unemployed within its ranks. STEWARDS’ OFFER REFUSED. SYDNEY 7 , January 10. (Received January 10, at 10.20 a.m.) A meeting of the Stewards’ Union decided that the union should offer a full complement of stewards to the steamer Moreton Bay. The Commonwealth Shipping Board refused the offer because of its decision to lay up the vessel for four months.
