FRENCH PLAYERS’ VISIT THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON. January 9. The match Franco v. Now Zealand will be played at Miramar on Wednesday and Thursday, January 18 and 19. The following have been selected to represent New Zealand:— Singles.—G. Ollivier (Christchurch) and E. L. Bartleet (Auckland). Doubles.—L. G. Knott and N. G. Sturt (Auckland). The order of play in the match will be:—Two singles on Wednesday and two singles and one doubles on Thursday. M.' Jean Borolrn. the French captain, has agreed to a suggestion to play an additional exhibition match on the first day, and has nominated C, Boussus, the junior member of the team. The Selection Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided that bis opponent will bo C. E. Malfroy, ex-junior champion of New Zealand. MANAWATU TOURNEY The Manawatu tourney was commenced at Palmerston North yesterday under ideal conditions. A. C. Stednian (Auckland) gained a surprise victory over M. C. Lampe (Wanganui, the champion), defeating him 6-4, 7-5. The tourney will last four days.
