LIMERICK FOR HAZLETT MEMORIAL
SYDNEY VISIT FOLLOWS. [.Special to the ‘ Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. F. D. Jones will soon have Limerick moving along again in strong work. It is intended to nominate him for the Hazlett Memorial Plate, to be decided at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Meeting next month. If all goes well he will run in that event, and will leave for Sydney about the end of next month to fulfil engagements at the Australian Jockey Club’s Easter Meeting. Zaragoza will probably accompany him. There is a possibility that Arikiwai will also make the trip, and with that in view he may be nominated for the Doncaster Handicap. Rapier looks in the best of health after his two winning efforts at the Auckland Racing Club’s Meeting. He was on the track at Riccarton this morning, and he was as light-hearted as a kitten. He will probably have his next race at Trentham, and though burdened with 9.8 in the Wellington Cup, he will have to be seriously reckoned with The two-year-old filly Childsplay got into some trouble on the boat when returning from Auckland, and had some skin taken off her legs. She is engaged in the Wellington Stakes at the approaching Trentham Meeting, and it is hoped that her injuries will heal quickly, so that she may be able to go north with her stable mates. Agrion was a trifle sore when he returned from Auckland. On accounkof slight trouble in this direction he had to bo carefully handled in his preparation on the hard Ellerslie tracks. Probably he will have a rest before he is asked to do any more strenuous work. GOLF MIAMI BEACH TOURNEY. MIAMI (Florida), January 8. Sarazen won the professional championship with a score of 289 for 72 holes. Kirkwood tied for third place with 292. INTERNATIONAL CROQUET AUSTRALIA WINS SECOND TEST. MELBOURNE, January 9. Australia won the second test match against England. In the doubles C. Miller and Sirs Miller defeated Colonal Dupre and Miss Steel (England), 26-19.
