CIRCUS HANDS ARRESTED

CHARGES OF “RECEIVING" [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 7. Certain petty thieving which coincided with the visit of Wirths’ Circus to places in the South Island resulted in a search warrant being issued in Wellington yesterday. The warrant was executed bv Detective-sergeant Jarrold and other detectives, and several travelling rugs, shirts, collars, and gloves were taken possession of by the police. Three circus hands—Robert Edward Butcher (aged twenty), Robert Landford (thirty-one), and Ernest Sydney Stewart (thirty)—were arrested and charged with haying received the property knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained, and were remanded to-day till January 10. Two charges involving property_ to the value of £2l were made against Landlord, Stewart was charged with receiving property valued at £2, and Butcher property valued at £2 4s 6d.
