MILLION AND HALF IN SIGHT The population of New Zealand, its dependencies, and the mandated territory of Western Samoa virtually reached the ono and a-half million mark on April 1 hist. Exclusive of Maoris, the population of the dominion proper was 1,373,740, comprised of 701,774 males and 671,972 females. The Maoris numbered 64,234 —33,564 men and 30,670 women.
