HAULING BY TRACTORS
While there will aways be scope for the electric vehicle, .self-contained as sucli, the solution of the collection and delivery of goods will be_ found in the development of the electric tractor,_ the advantages of which, nre_ obvious, especially in _ congested loading areas and in garaging, where less than half the usual space would be required (says a writer in an English exchange). With the electric tractor the trailer brake question is a simple one. There is sufficient, weight to give adhesion, and with a' top loaded battery the use of dual batteries is simple. The trailers themselves are open to a nice design (not the adapted horse dray) with three pairs of wheels, the centre panbeing a few inches bigger in diameter than the others, and having the greater part of the springing. The essentials for an electric tractor arc; Short wheel base and track, small wheels, spring draw-bar, central _ bulling, and close coupling. The light cattery shunting locomotive is gradually com iim into increasing use, and many nl the features necessary to the locomotive are essential to the road tractor.
