AMERICAN ADMIRAL
CRITICISM OF DEPARTMENT RELIEVED OF COMMAND. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, October 26. Another incident-similar to the reprimand to Admiral Sims following his speech in London a few years ago has occurred with the_ relief of Admiral Magruder, who visited Australia with tho fleet in 1925 as commandant of tb© Fourth Naval District of Philadelphia, with orders to report to Mr Wubur, Secretary of the Navy, as the result of a controversy precipitated by the admiral’s published and oral criticism of the naval establishment. Admiral Magruder declared that the navy was" over-organised, and that a large percentage ■ of its appropriations was waited. , Mx- Wilbur asked for an explanation, but the criticisms _ continued. The measure is 110% disciplinary, but Adxniral Magruder has sent a letter to President Coolidge protesting against Mr Wilbur’s order, and requesting an interview with the President. Ho also expressed the hope that tho order would ho revolt. Admiral Magrtider has only lour years to serve before retirement.
