PLAZA AND GRAND
The new programme of pictures which opened at the Plaza and Grand Theatres to-day is billed as a tremendous one. In the chief attraction, ‘ Casey at the Bat,’ the inimitable Wallace Beery appears, and all those who saw him in 1 Behind the Front ’ or ‘ We’re in the Navy Now ’ know just how many laughs this comedian can raise. The film, which is a thrilling baseball one, tells how the champion hitter of a local team goes to New York to play in a big game, but is double-crossed by crooks. His girl, however, discovers it, and everything is righted. Ford Sterling, Zasu Pitts, and Sterling Holloway are the featured players. 4 The Island of Despair,’ the second feature, is a thrilling sea story, with Mathesou Lang in the stellar role. _ The story of this film, which is a British one, was written for the screen by Margot Neville, and is an interesting one, full of thrills and surprises. Marjorie Hume plays opposite the star for the first time. The second episode of 4 The Riddle Rider ’ is also showing.
