NITRATE FOR EXPLOSIVES
SOVIET i BIG PITtCHASEIi. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, October 25. There has been an interesting _ development in the extent of the Soviet’s purchases of Chilean nitrate. During recent months high-grade quality, exclusively used for the production of explosives, has been bought in Chile, the finance being arranged through Berlin. It is understood that so far 50,000 tons has been purchased and more sought. The Soviet’s purchases in 1926 were only 2,000 tons, while the pre-war maximum was 15,000 tons per annum. Even in wartime the purchases did not exceed 100,000 tons annually.
