QUEENSLAND HAS DEFICIT THE PREMIER’ WARNING. Tress Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BRISBANE, October 26. (Received October 2(3, at 11.5 a.m.) The Auditor-General's report was (aided in the Assembly. It discloses a deficit for the year of £313.166, and an accumulated deficit of £1,528.188. The report shows that receipts from ination per head increased from £2 (is 8d in 1916-17 to £5 2s Id last year. The interest on public debts lor the same period increased from £3 8s lid to £5 9s 6d. Mr M'Cormaek said that the Government intended to reduce the loan expenditure as much as possible, ll (be Australian States did not adopt a policy of reduction voluntarily it would b; forced upon thorn. TASMANIAN SURPLUS FOR YEAR. TAXATION TO BE REDUCED. HOBART, October 26. (Received October 20, at 11.5 a.m.) Jn the Asembly the Treasurer (Mr Lyons), in his Budget statement, revealed a surplus for the year of £185.000. He said that it was decided to reduce taxation 181- per cent., and to make other concessions.
