VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE
PRESENT DAY PROBLEMS [Per United Press Association.^--AUCKLAND. October. 20. At the end of last month a group of educational authorities and leading business men met to discuss the problems of vocational guidance and the co-ordination of education with tlui needs of after life. A strong committee was then set up to prepare a report on the matters discussed for consideration. At a further conference tho committee, of which Dr K. I*. Neale is secretary, prepared its report, which touches in a practical manner on many outstanding present-day problems. It proposes the formation of a society to bo known as the Auckland Iv.lncational Society, the general objects being (a) to encourage by all moans in its power the development of our educational system, primary, secondary, and university, designed to provide tlm maximum development of tno capacities of the, individual to (it him to live a full life and take his share in tho activities of the community; (h) to facilitate tho entry of tho individual into his place in tho economic and social life of the community best suited to bis capacities and interests; (c) to encourage by all means in its power the unification and co-ordination ot different grades of education without sacrificing in any degree the fullest measure of local variety and autonomy in educational matters, compatible with educational efficiency. To those a im in her of particular objects arc added. It is proposed that all persons of twenty-one years of ago and over resident in Auckland shall ho eligible for membership. The report will bo presented to another coulereuco of those interested.
