BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP UNEXPECTED REFUSAL. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, July 21. Sir Campbell Stuart expresses the opinion that the first duty of the chairman of the Pacific Cable Board is to visit Australia and New Zealand, and confer with tho managers. Then he should go to Fiji and Fanning Island. Tho board, at its meeting on Monday, will consider the situation. It was so confident of Sir Campbell Stuart’s acceptance of the chairmanship that hitherto it had not considered an alternative.
