LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL The Legislative Council met at 2.3 D p.in,, and after formal business .adjourned at 2.35 p.m. until Wednesday next. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Replying to Mr H. L. Tapley (Dunedin North), the Prime Alinistci' (AIT J. G. Coates) said that tho statement published in the ‘ New’ Zealand Worker ’ on July 13 that tho Government subsidy to local bodies carrying out unemployed relief work was conditional on the rates of pay being 12s per day for married men and 9s per day for single men was contrary to fact, and entirely without foundation. The following Bills were introduced and read.* first time;—Auckland Harbor Board Empowering Bill (Air W. E. Parry), Building Trades Employees’ Tools of Trade Insurance Bill (Mr P. Fraser), Christchurch Hospital Amendment Bill (Mr E. J. Howard), the Legislature Amendment Bill, No. 2 (Air H. E. Holland). The Samoa Amendment Bill passed ite second reading after long debate, and the House rose at 3.15 a..m.
