(.Special to tue 1 Star.’] AUCKLAND, July 22. A strong protest against the decision of tho New Zealand Rugby League to send a team to Australia this season was made by the Auckland League. Mr E. Stalhvortliy, the Auckland delegate to tho New Zealand Council, said he had strongly fought against the proposal. He was of the opinion that a tour of the Auckland team would tend to give the game a fillip in the soutii. Mr W. J. Davidson said it was an unwise policy to send a New Zealand team on tour. Seven of tho best fpnvards in the code wore at present standing on the lino under suspension. Further, two of tho recognised best backs were on their way to England. Was it possible for New Zealand to be fully representative at this stage when tho standard of play was so high in Australia? I’hcy should concentrate their efforts on the game in the dominion. Other speakers expressed the opinion that the southern tour would be impossible if the New Zealand team were sent to Australia. Eventually it was decided to extend an invitation to a Sydney club to visit Auckland this season. It also decided that tho team for the south bo selected at the end of the second round of matches. It will play at Hamilton, Westport, Greymouth, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington. £6OO is to bo expended on the trip. The team will consist of twenty players, and will be accompanied by a manager and a representative of the Referees’ Association.
