STRONG INDICTMENT
AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINES DEGRADATION OF WOMEN. LONDON, July 1. “ I am appalled at the misery, want, and degradation of the aboriginal women of Australia, who are the prey o*' white Europeans aud are regarded ns fair game,” declared Miss Teunent Cook, the South Australian delegate a.t the conference of the British Commonwealth League. ‘‘The aborigines are rapidly dying out, mainly from venereal disease. Irrespective of their intelligence, aborigines should be placed where they will receive the benefits, and not the defects, of civilisation. I strongly favor the establishment of a model aborigh nal State, governed according to 'its own laws and customs but with cannibalism and cruel rites prohibited.”
