Jones (Ellesmere) toclav vliether it is not a fact that the statistics collected regarding the potato crop in the dominion linvo been seriously discounted by the severe drought. Tho questioner .suggested that immediate steps be taken through Hie officers of the department to get inlorniatiou regarding the actual position, which, ho satd. would show that there is a great shortage compared with the supply indicated bv the official statistics. . The Minister (Mr Hawken) pointed out that the figures published were merely interim ones, and ho understood that the cards which were left with farmers to indicate the actual crop would be collected ini a fortnight or three weeks. The result of this compilation would bo given to the Picss. I. know that weather conditions have made the original figures of very little value,” concluded the Minister ol Agriculture.
