CANTERBURY NOTES

MASON'S TEAM FOR SYDNEY [Special to tub ' Stab.’J CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 14. Interviewed to-day, tho veteran trainer, R. J. Mason, said lie had definitely decided to take Agrion and Phillipic to Sydney. The pair may be accompanied by the yearling Goblin Market, by Absurd—Cherry Mart, who lias been entered for the Breeders’ Plate. Questioned as to Agrion’s prospects in the A.J.C. Derby, Mason replied; “Though I do not think he is a typical Derby colt, I expect him to run a big race at Randwick._ The colt will receive tho full penalty in the Chelmsford Stakes, and unless he is at the top of his form he will not bo a starter, for it would be useless knocking him about. The team will leave Wellington for Sydney on July 1 by the Ulimaroa.”

Rapier has made his reappearance at Riccarton, being back in his old quarters in H. Nurse’s stable. Ho has been on tho easy list for a few weeks, following a kick, but he appears to bo quite sound again. _ He will soon be in active work again with a view to his spring engagements. Magna Charta was on tho track Hus morning, and got through useful pace work. Ho is a big fellow with a good stylo of galloping, and as ho is very forward ho should ho ready to show up in a race very soon. Probably ho will bo seen in action at the Grand National Meeting. Sun Up was on the track this morning, but he was restricted to easy exercise. Ho looks well after his trip to Auckland, where ho raced consistently but witli bad luck. Ho may make amends very soon, as, he is now in the best of order for tho meetings near at hand.
