AUSTRALIA’S POPULATION
STEADILY GROWING, Press Association— By Telegraph-Copyright * SYDNEY, April 14. (Received April 14, at noon.) According to the figures compiled by tho Commonwealth Statistician, the population of Australia on December 21 last was 6,110,614, an increase of 113,480 during the year. Of the increase the excess of births over deaths was 76,210. and the excess of arrivals over departures 42,220. Now South Wales is the most populous State, with 2,347,781 inhabitants. The population of Tasmania decreased by 2 ,278. The other States all showed substantia] increases.
