THE EXTREMISTS' POLICY GROWING OPPOSITION Press Awodation—By Tehgraph—Copyright SHANGHAI, April 12. There are indications of growing opposition to the extremist policy. In a recent demonstration at Foochow 300,000 persons participated, acclaiming a moderate policy. A colonel who addressed the crowd in favor of Red extreme action was mobbed and shot, and his body was thrown into the river. A naval wireless message from Weihaiwei says that the officer administering the Government sent an urgent request for the despatch of naval reinforcements in view of alarming reports of threatened disturbances at Chinkiang.—Sydney * Sun ’ Cable. CHINESE CRUISERS. IN ACTION AGAINST SOUTHERNERS. SHANGHAI, April 12. Chinese cruisers are now in action for the Northerners against the Southerners. Two of the latter cruisers shelled the north bank of the Yangtse.—Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Cable. JAPANESE REINFORCEMENTS. TOKJ.O, April 12. The general staff has dsecided to send five companies of regular troops to the Tientsin-Peking area to supplement the three companies already there.
