CUT DOWN BY TRAIN
CAR CAUGHT OH CROSSING POLO PLAYER INJURED {Teb United Pbess Association - .! FEII/DING, March 30. J. E. Galen by, of tlie Hawke’s. Bay polo team, was the victim of a railway crossing accident this morning. He was motoring over the Kim hoi ton 3’oad crossing, when the goods train which reaches here at 5.20 caught the car amidships and carried it over the cattle stop into thr entrance gate to the platform adjoining. Mr Gatenby was thrown out actually touching the rail when . the. engine passed over without touching him. Ho received injuries, and, was conveyed to hospital. it will be twenty-four.hours before the extent of his injuries is known. The engine-driver saw the car approaching, and gave a prolonged warning whistle. The crossing has a red danger light suspended over it.
