EARTHQUAKE DANGERS
NEW ZEALAND WARNED AMERICAN PROFESSOR’S COMMENT. PreEd Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, March 29. Professor Bailey Willis, of Stanford University, arrived by the_ Ulimaroa, and sounded a note of warning to New Zealanders. He said that scientists and officials in New Zealand were alert to the earthquake danger, and were inclined to take measures against future disaster. The public, however, was indifferent, and architects and engineers generally were careless. He concluded by saying that this was to be deplored in view of the certainty of future shocks like that of 1855.
