WHALERS RETURN
£250.000 WORTH OF OIL [Per United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, Alarch 28. Tho whaler C. A. Larsen arrived at Stewart Island on Sunday with 47,500 barrels of oil from the Ross Sea, valued 1 at approximately £250,000. She reports ; heavy weather. On the return trip she visited Balleny Island and found whales ' numerous there, securing a hundred in ten days. This new field in the warmer regions opens a possibility ot a longer whaling season. Balleny has not been visited since 1830. The vessel proceeds* to Wellffcgton for a few days to replenish hes ou fuel.
