LADIES’ CLUB FIXTURE AM AUSPICIOUS BEGI3KIHG Rarely has the Caledonian Ground witnessed such activity as on Saturday afternoon, when there must have been over 200 girls actively participating in the first athletic meet staged by the newly-formed Dunedin Ladies’ Amateur Athletic Club. Favored by almost perfect weather, there was a fairly large crowd of spectators, who were treated to an excellent afternoon’s sport. A lengthy programme was put through with a minimum amount of delay, and in addition to the ordinary track and field events some novel relay races were included on the programme. The standard displayed by competitors in tiie ladies’ running events was n fairly high one, and augurs well for tho success of the Dunedin Ladies’ Club, whose auspicious .beginning is due in a large pleasure to the splendid organising work that has been done by Miss E. S. Batt, the enthusiastic secretary. Mr E. L. Macassey (president of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association) acted as referee and superintendent, Mr B. Thompson being the starter. Tho judges were Messrs R. Swinney, A. Bain, and F. J. D, Rolfe, and Misses Holmes, Peake, Wills, Batt, Roberts, Annison, and Mattingly acted as stewards. Mr C. H. Heaton was an efficient and obliging Press steward. Three men’s events were included on the programme, the I,oooyds handicap being won by the ’Varsity halfmile champion, W. N. Allison (20yds), in the good time of 2min 2-lsec. R. W. Lander accounted for the furlong, and A. L. Ravenswood for tho one and a-half-mile cycle handicap. Results:— LADIES’ EVENTS. 75 Yards Fiat (Novice).—First heat: Miss M. MacAulay 1, Miss T. Sutherland 2 ; six starters; time, 10 l-ssec. Second heat: Miss M. Walker 1, Miss A. M’George 2; six starters; time, 10 l-osec. Third heat; Miss M. Wright and Miss J. Walsh, dead heat, 1; six starters; time, 10 l-s.sec. Final: Miss M. Wright 1, Miss M. MacAulay 2, Miss J. Welsh 3. A close finish, a yard between the placed competitors. Time, 10 l-Sscc.

Potato Race Relay.—Final: Technical School A 1, Bishopscourt Girl Guides 2, Cale. 3. 75 Yards Flat (Open).—First heat: Miss MacAulay 1, Miss Palmer 2; six starters; won by 4yds; time, 10 3-ssec. Second heat; Miss J. Welsh T, Miss B. Burns 2; six starters; won by 2vds; time, 10 2-ssec. Third heat: Miss M. Pettit 1, Miss M. Stewart 2; sis starters; wdh by a yard in a good finish; time, 10 l-ssec. Final: Miss J. Welsh 1, Miss B. Burns 2, Miss M. Stewart 3. In a splendid finish Miss Welsh won by a foot, Miss Stewart inches back third. Time, 10 2-ssec. Wand Relay.—First heat: Knox Girl Guides 1, Bishopscourt Girl Guides No. 1 2; five starters. Second heat: Musselburgh Girl Guides 1, Roslyn Mills 2; six starters. Final; Musselburgh Girl Guides 1, Bishopscourt Girl Guides No, 12, Roslyu Mills 3. This was a revival of the old “ passing the stick ” event High Jump.—Miss V. Cormack 1. Miss"M. Pettit 2, Miss M. Cameron 3. Seven competitors. Miss Cormack jumped well, clearing 4ft 2in. Scotch Ball Relay.—First heat: Cale 1, Technical School B 2- five starters. Second heat: Girl Citizens 1, Kapai 2: five starters. Final: Cale 1, Technical School B 2, Girl Guides 3. 400 Yards Walking' Race.—Miss D. Moir 1, Miss J. Welsh 2, Miss M. M'Laren 3. Seven starters. Miss Moir, who walked exceedingly well, won easily by 6yds, 2yds between second and third.

Sack Race.—First heat ; Miss V.Cormack 1, Miss R. Parker 2, Miss Pettit 3; six starters. Second heat: Miss Charlton v l, Miss Perry 2, Miss M'Laren 3; five starters. Final: Miss V. Mount, on the limit mark (60yds), set the pace, and at the end of the one and a-halt laps the order was Mount, Morris, and Allison, with the back-marker (M'Lachlan) moving up. Allison, who ran, a nice race, put in his challenge 120yds from home, and rounding the home straight a yard to the good ho went on to win by 4yds from Morris.
