ST. KILDA BAND

SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY The garden party held at the residence of Mr S. Solomon on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of raising funds for the St Kilda Band proved an unqualified success. Tho _ weather was ideal for such a function, and hundreds of people were in attendance. The gardens were looking beautiful, and what with tho magnificent .view, tho scent of the roses, aind music of the St. Kilda Brass Band, and also of the Albany Street School Brass Band, it was indeed a day on which “every prospect pleased.” The Albany Street School Brass Band was making a first public appearance, and under the baton of Mr A. Hanna it gave a very creditable performance. After tbe Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr R W. Hall) had made a few remarks the party was officially opened by Miss Thelma M'Millan, Mrs James Dixon then presenting “ Miss New Zealand” with a beautiful bouquet. The financial results were highly satisfactory, and the secretary, Mr W. W, Pennycuick, is deserving of praise for the excellent arrangements. Mrs Marshall Macdonald also rendered able assistance. The following were the principal stallholders:—Refreshment tent, Mrs Macdonald and Girl Guides; ice creams, Mrs A. Homer; cakes and fruit, Mrs T. Rogers; produce, Mrs R. Telfer; soft drinks, Mr H. Thompson; amusements, Messrs Newman and M‘Lean. Three hearty cheers for Mr Solomon for the use of his grounds concluded a successful outing.
