The Hon. G. J. Anderson attended the jubilee celebrations of the Tuapcka Council to-day. To-morrow he will visit Tahakopa, Papatowai, Chaslands, and Waikawa. On Friday he will proceed to Niagara, Quarry Hills, and Tokanui, arriving in Invercargill that night. He will visit Gore for the weekend. and will return north early next week—probably on Tuesday. Mr T. T. Hugo, Government inspector of fire brigades, arrived yesterday afternoon from Wellington. He will make a tour of inspection of brigades in the Otago and Southland districts. Sergeant D. B. Murray, who has been,, transferred to Addington, was farewelled by the residents of South Dunedin and St. Kilda. The mayor (Mr 11. W. Hall), in presenting Mrs Murray with a travelling case, a silvermounted ebony back-hand mirror, a set of hair brushes, a solid silver fountain pen, and a well-filled handbag, said it was with feelings of regret that they had met for the purpose, but as the transfer had been arranged he could but wish them both success and much happiness in their new surroundings. Reference was made to the particularly good work done by Sergeant Mjirray during the time he had been in South Dunedin. Messrs P. Johnson, Poulter, Downic, and Scott also eulogised the good service rendered by Mr and Mrs Murray to the district. Dr W. G. Bridgman left by the first express to-day to take up an appointment at the Timaru Hospital. Out of forty-six applications Mr G. T, O’Hara Smith, present assistant town clerk of Nelson, has been appointed town clerk or Dannevirke. Dr Roberts, who has been on a visit to Dunedin, returned to Waimate today. The periodical change of officers of the Salvation Army caused the departure from Dunedin to-day of Captain and Mrs Rankin for Westport, Captain Scott for Brunnerton, and of Lieutenant Thomson for South Wellington. Adjutant and Mrs Watkin will leave for Tomuka within the new few days. Mr George Luckhnrst, who has been a steward at the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Club for the past six years, and who is shortly leaving for Melbourne, was last night tendered asocial evening by members of the club. The president of the R.S.A. (Mr E. J. Anderson), on behalf of the members, presented Mr Luckhnrst with a pocket wallet containing a tangible recognition of the services rendered by their departing guest. Mr Anderson referred to the tact and cheerfulness with which Mr Luckhnrst had carried out his duties, and wished his mother and him happiness and good fortune in their new sphere. In reply Mr Luckhurst spoko of the happy associations he had formed during his term as steward. Ho had found the members good soldier comrades, and thought that, as long as this type frequented the club, the association was to he congratulated. He thanked the members for their kindness and trusted it would be etxendcd to his successor (Mr G. Buchanan). Mr J. Hardic, the winner of a handicap billiards tournament at the Returned Soldiers’ Club, was last night presented with the handsome nlvor cup recently presented to the R S.A. by the Auckland Sports Chib 'a appreciation of the fact that two members of the Dunedin R.S.A. compe:ed at the New Zealand amateur milliards championship in Auckland.
