The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Acting Prime Minister, and Mr L. B. Beale, British Trade Commissioner, will bo present at- the Otago A. and P. Show on Thursday, People’s Day. The Hospital Committee recommends the appointment of Miss Edith L. Wilkin as assistant masseuse at the Dunedin Hospital. Dr J. A. D. Iverach returned to Dunedin on Monday from Great Britain, where he has been doing postgraduate work in medicine. He intends practising in Dunedin. At a meeting of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church congregation, Wellington, it was decided to send a call in connection with the vacant pastorate caused by the resignation of the Rev. Dr Gibb, to the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, 8.A., of Perth, West Australia. —Press Association.

After fifty years of service in the Methodist Church, the Rev. _ Samuel Lawry, of Christchurch, is retiring from active ministry. Ho has a record of thirty-four years as a circuit minister and sixteen years as conncctional secretary for New Zealand.—Press Association.

The Timaru Borough Council unanimously re-elected as mayor Mr G. J. Wallace, who designed on Monday last at the suggestion of the Audit Department. A Press Association cablegram from London states that Mr F. W. Furkcrt (Engmeer-in-Chief, Public Works) left on Wednesday for New Zealand. En route he will inspect the large public works in France, Egypt, and Java, and will call at Port Darwin and Thursday Island.
