Otago Old’s Winning Personality “Miss Auckland” Announced To-night Secret Ballot for “Miss New Zealand ” [Special to the ' Star.'J AUCKLAND, November 18. Excitement over tie Beauty Contest is being maintained in all centres, and admirers of tie queen and tie maid of each province continue to build hopes and advance reasons why their particular province should provide “ Miss New Zealand.” In Auckland there is a nightly demonstration by tie , admirers of each of the four, candidates for the Miss Auckland” honor, paper streamers, balloons, and other favors being released immediately the province’s No. 1 appears on the stage. To-night is the final voting night, and the announcement will be made to-morrow night as to who will be the two local girls to compete in the final. It is highly probable that Miss Sutherland will be “Miss Auckland.” The South Island girls continue to enjoy their wonderful experience. To-day they were again at the Eoyal Agricultural Show, where they were received by the committee, and made much of. The public gather wherever the beflagged motors are seen standing, and are never tired of gazing and commenting on the beauties. In whatever city they visited Otago’s representatives have, created a very favorable impression indeed, and it is noticeable that oven Auckland theatre audiences give them a particularly warm reception. The winning personality of the chosen of Otago has done much for the province, whichever way the vote may go on Saturday. The Judging Committee has been instructed that the vote is to be a secret one, and the judges are not to confer. Whether this method is the best is doubtful, but so it has been decreed. The judges meet the girls at luncheon on Saturday, and then make their final, choice. It is safe to say that the big majority of the people of New Zealand are awaiting the decision with considerable interest.
